Modular construction – flexibility through system components

Modular construction is characterised by the use of prefabricated room modules or building elements, which are designed as self-contained units and can be assembled to form complex building structures. This construction method allows for a high degree of flexibility, both in the planning stage and when it comes to future alterations or demolition. Prefabricated modules offer growing potential for application, particularly when extending existing buildings or adding annexes and extensions. 
In academic discourse, modular thinking represents a methodological fusion of technical precision, sustainability and adaptive use. Research is increasingly focusing on the optimisation of interfaces, digital manufacturing processes and the integration of recyclable materials. The aim is to develop modular systems that go beyond mere functionality to enable architectural quality and aesthetic diversity.
