Hamburg 2024
Visit to innovative logistics properties in the German logistics capital
Logistics properties have now become the most important commercial asset class and are increasingly shaping the outskirts and entrances to cities. Against this background, a more intensive architectural debate is urgently required. Due to changing framework conditions, there is currently an intense debate about what future logistics properties should look like - particularly with regard to sustainability and space efficiency or multi-storey buildings. As part of STUDIO, we are tackling this task this semester by developing universally implementable prototypes.
Our excursion destination Hamburg is of particular importance as a logistics location in Germany due to its port. It is not without reason that the first two-storey logistics property in Germany, the Mach2 property developed by Four Parx, was built here. No other logistics project in Germany has attracted as much attention in recent years as this one - and we took a look at it! We then discussed current trends in the logistics real estate sector and the concept of infrastructure real estate with Tobias Kassner, Head of Research at one of Germany's largest logistics real estate project developers, the GARBE Group. The excursion concluded with a guided tour of the Hellmann World Cargo Center in Norderstedt. And of course there was also a short tour of the port!
